 Goal: The student can explain the phenomenon of heatwaves 

 In the near future we will experience more heatwaves than before. Heatwaves are considered to be one of the effects of climate change as you have learned earlier. In the upcoming modules you will learn more about the effects of heatwaves on health. 

In order to understand this, you need to have a clear understanding of the characteristics of heatwaves. 

What is it, and how is it caused? This is the focus in the coming days.

Please consider the given definition of heatwaves: 

• do you think is it precise enough? 
• Can you find other, and maybe better, definitions? Try to find, or compose, a definition that in your opinion is the best.

Find out why heatwaves do happen, and what the relationship is between heatwaves and climate change.

Then, read this website https://ghhin.org/understanding-heat/ carefully. 

Learn about the difference between temperature and heat. And learn about ways to measure and to predict.

Finally, look at this Youtube-clip :

 as a check whether or not you have understood the phenomenon of heat waves.

 If not: start again with the first websites/videos of this week’s programme.

 Knowledge check:

Make an infographic about the causes of heat waves. Be as complete as possible.
